This grant helped to address the need for child safety education, specifically around head trauma through bike and motor vehicle safety education.
This grant is also helping provide expanded support to families who are struggling to pay for child care and don't qualify for the Best Beginnings Child Care Scholarship. Our current emergency child care scholarship is not enough to support families in a sustainable way. Funds from this grant have helped create a starting point to expand this program into a three-month tiered support opportunity to better meet the needs of families in a way that ensures long-term success.
Story of Impact:
During the Cayden Leonard Bike Rodeo, 11 bikes were given to Child Care Connections to raffle off to children at the event. Before the raffle, a grandmother of one of the children participating in the event found a three-wheeled bike to borrow from a friend so that her grandson, who is in her custody, could join other children on a short trail ride. She brought her grandson to our helmet fitting station where he was fitted for a bike helmet to ride. He set off on the trail ride that was led by an event volunteer and showed children how to safely enter and exit trails, stop, and watch for vehicles, and share the road.
