Managing UP: Building Strong Board Relationships
This training was created especially for Executive Directors.
Board Members, please skip this one. We love and appreciate you, but this session is designed to allow new and experienced EDs to have an open, professionally facilitated dialog with their peers about board relationships. It's geared toward any Executive Director who wants to explore ways to improve their board recruitment, engagement, and management skills.
The presentation emphasizes effective communication, trust-building, and aligning board members’ roles with the organization's mission and needs. It addresses how to encourage active participation and recognize contributions.
Participants will explore, understand, and practice the following using case studies and interactive discussions:
1. Explore strategies to ensure board alignment with organizational mission, build strong relationships with board members, and foster effective board engagement.
2. Understand the importance of "managing up" and how it enhances board effectiveness within nonprofit organizations.
3. Practice self-assessment techniques and develop actionable plans to improve management strategies with your boards, focusing on role clarity, recruitment, and board member engagement.
Following the training session from 3:00 - 5:00, Caitlin will be available for another hour from 5:00 - 6:00 to socialize and answer any questions you have. She loves helping EDs address issues specific to their organizations, so come take advantage of this opportunity to get some one-on-one time with Caitlin!
