Join One Valley and Kari Anderson for a four-part board training series on how to be an outstanding nonprofit board member.

About this event
Sessions are every Wednesday from September 28th to October 19th from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Zoom (9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19)

WHY IS THIS PROGRAM IMPORTANT?

Building a board of engaged volunteer leaders is critical for nonprofit organizations. And great boards are composed of individuals who understand – and embrace – their roles and responsibilities.

As nonprofit boards diversify with a new generation and a broader representation of the people they serve, and as corporations encourage community leadership experiences for promising employees, we are presented fresh opportunities to reach and equip more rising leaders with the tools they need.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?

The One Valley Community Foundation is excited to bring back this four-part series that offers an overview of the learning, commitment, fiduciary and governance responsibilities of board service. This small cohort series will be limited to 20 participants, which will allow for more intimate discussions on challenges and opportunities board members face in their leadership roles.

COST

First nonprofit representative: $200

Additional nonprofit representative(s): $150

WHAT TOPICS WILL BE COVERED?

Connection To Cause

You can be a good board member, but you can’t be a GREAT board member, if you don’t care about the mission of the nonprofit board you serve on. Learn more about how this critical aspect of board service impacts how you serve as an effective ambassador for the organization you serve!

Board and Board Member Responsibilities

The board – and board members, have shared and separate duties to ensure mission delivery for your organization. Learn about the board’s collective role, and board member’s individual roles, in not only ensuring good governance, but supporting the Executive Director.

Your Role in Board Composition and Development

While the Governance Committee is responsible for the “board path”, each board member is responsible for contributing to the cultural health of the organization. Each board member has a unique network, which should be tapped for potential board members. You’ll learn more about how to have conversations with your peers as to “what makes their heart sing”, as well as your role in continuing board education.

Board Operations

There is an adage that “the board work is not done at the board meeting; it’s done via board committees”! Learn more about how to create engaging, actionable board meetings, as well as how to delegate key board governance work to board committees.

The Board’s Role – and YOUR Role – in Fundraising!

Yep, the board is responsible for ensuring that your nonprofit has the financial resources to deliver on your mission. What’s that code for? Fundraising! Raising money isn’t just your staff’s job, it’s the role of every board member. You’ll come away with a better understanding as to your particular role in raising funds for your cause, as well as stories to connect you with potential donors.
